The desperate need today is not for a greater number of intelligent people, or gifted people, but for deep people.” - Richard Foster, Celebration of Discipline.

Wouldn't we all like to have more time to work on our spiritual depth? Wouldn't we like to feel that we are accomplished at finding our spiritual centers in any situation? After all, the Bible calls us to “do” spiritual activities: prayer, fasting, meditation, worship, celebration, work & eating. (yes, eating can be a religious act!)

Sometimes I feel that if I only had more minutes in the day, I would be able to spend enough time on spiritual activities. But the reality is that these actions will only occur in the context of the everyday things I already am doing. I know that I need to work on these within my life, and studying in a group with others is a good tool for motivation.

We are beginning a study series on the spiritual disciplines – in which we are all novices, no matter how many years we have been working on it. In this time, we will consider a wide variety of forms of prayer, many ways of meditating, and practice finding spiritual moments in our everyday lives. I am really looking forward to what might happen!

Grace and peace,

Jeannie
